Just a note about my Hearing Instruments. I have been using them for about 3 months now. And I am very pleased with them. I will say that it took some getting used to them. Hello,

Ten years ago, I woke up one morning having lost the hearing in my left ear due to sudden severe Sensorineural Hearing Loss without a known cause. Not only did I lose my hearing, but I had immediate sever tinnitus. What a shock it was to have lost so much and gained noise in my head I thought I could never live with. Tinnitus is awful. You can never get away from it. It caused me to have panic attacks, lose my concentration and self-confidence and generally feel on edge all the time. I was told by my ENT to just go home and learn to live with it. I had to adjust to that plus the hearing loss. I lost my ability to sense where a sound was coming from. It became dangerous for me to walk across parking lots because I could never tell where the sound from the cars was coming from. My brain was fooling me into thinking that I still knew, when I did not. I generally felt out of balance with nothing in one ear hearing wise.

Nine years later, two beloved relatives had heard an advertisement on the radio from Hozer Hearing Clinic saying that they could help with tinnitus. They urged me to give them a call. I was a little skeptical as I have done a lot of research over the years on hearing loss and tinnitus. At this point, I figured I had nothing to loose, so I called and made an appointment.

As soon as I stepped into the door of the clinic, I was made to feel very welcome by Doris, as I anxiously awaited my exam. Much to my delight, Carrie did her diagnostic testing. I had grown to hate soundproof booths over the years in my regular exams at my audiologist because I always faced the same result, No help. Learn to live with it. Carrie was different. She did not make me feel bad and carefully explained everything that she was doing and why. She tested me and matched my tinnitus sound. It was the first time since my hearing loss that someone actually measured and understood my tinnitus! I cried with relief as she sat me down to explain that I still had 60% recognition in my ear and that we should protect that. She immediately let me try a hearing aid and coached me over the next few months in how to get used to using a hearing aid.

The first time I walked outside the office, I heard sound in the affected ear. I heard birds singing because I could hear some tones in the affected ear. The hearing aid does not help me to hear clearly like the other ear, but it gives me the sense that I am no longer a one sided person! It distracts me from the tinnitus. I am more relaxed. I now enjoy music again because I can hear the music beat in that ear. Some moments now I am able to pretend that I am back to the life I once had.
